There are many myths that surround stock class paintball, of which, have kept players from trying it out. The truth is, stock class isn't for everyone, but to help debunk some of the misconceptions about it, maybe we can help grow this fun format a bit more. With that said, let's discuss these common myths.
Do Stock Pumps Suck in Scenarios?
After attending Oklahoma D-Day for 2 years, I've come to find many reasons why someone would want to play with a stock class paintball gun. The major reason would be for fiscal reasons. If you are on a budget, and can't afford to shoot a $65 case of paint every day at a week long paintball scenario, then a stock class paintball gun could be advantageous. For one you would shoot a heck of a lot less. In fact, this year at D-Day (2010), I found a good number of stock pumpers. They carried about 50 tubes of paintballs on a special stock class vest, along with 12 or so 12 gram co2 cartridges, and always had a little left after each of the daily 3 hour games. Heck, I bet they got out of the entire event only shooting a half a case... which is pretty impressive.
Another great point that needs to be made, is in scenarios like Oklahoma D-Day, which boasts 3,000 or so players from all around the globe, there is plenty of paint-slingers. In fact, there were so many fast-fingered-paintballers that you won't need to cover yourself - they'll do it for you. You can literally leave most of the shooting to your teammates, and pop out every once in a while to claim a kill for yourself.
Should You Stock?
If you are worried about the inadequacy of a stock gun in a full-fledged scenario - don't be. If you have a stock class harness, such as the ones Ronin makes, and carry a dozen 12 grams and 50+ tubes of paint, you will be fine. Just leave the majority of the shooting to trigger-happy-teammates, and only shoot when absolutely necessary. You'll be amazed at how little you can shoot when you ONLY shoot when necessary.
Don't let the fear of being out-gunned and out-supplied keep you from giving stock a try. Get the right gear and you'll be fine. You can find all your gear needs on our home page - Stock Class Paintball Gear.
